Busy Week for Iselin Firefighters

The firefighters of Iselin 9 were very busy over the course of the last week answering four mutual aid assignments while handling several calls within the district.

At approximately 11:00 pm District #9 was dispatched on a 1st alarm assignment into Avenel for a confirmed junkyard fire secondary to a transformer explosion. Upon arrival the crew on Engine 9-2 was put right to work by conducting a search of the neighboring property to ensure no embers had caught anything additional on fire. After the arrival of PSE&G crews began suppressing the fire. The crew on 9-2 was rotated multiple times on numerous hand lines with other assisting companies attempting to extinguish the fire while the crew on 9-3-4 was used to fill depleted SCBA bottles and provide lighting on the scene. Both crews were released from the scene at approx 6:30am.

A massive thunderstorm came through Woodbridge Township the evening of July 22. Lightning strikes and severe road flooding were reported in various sections of the town. While answering the storm related calls within the district including two water rescues Iselin #9 was ready to assist any of the neighboring towns in the event extra resources were needed with their boat and water rescue equipment.

On Wednesday morning at approximately 10:30 am District #9 was requested into the town of South Plainfield. The crew on Truck 9-2-4 provided coverage in the town with New Market FD from South Plainfield Fire Headquaters while units operated at a large gas main strike on Park Ave. The crew was released and returned by 11:30 am

At 2:00 pm Saturday July 27 Disctrict #9 was dispatch into the city of Perth Amboy for a confirmed structure fire on Washington Street. Engine 9-2 responded and assisted with numerous tasks on scene including suppression as well as overhaul. The stubborn fire that consumed at least two homes was placed under control and the crew was released at approx 6:45 pm.

District #9 was dispatched into Avenel during the evening hours of July 31. Avenel was dispatched to a reported fire on Terminal Way. While responding Chief Dan Mizak requested requested the 1st alarm after observing a large column of black smoke coming from that direction. A crew on 9-3-4 responded and assisted on scene refilling depleted SCBA bottles.
